Food!

Korean food has treated me well! YUM! Most Korean food is based upon rice, vegetables, and meat (I could do without the last). Traditional Korean meals almost always have numerous side dishes served with the main dishes. Kimchi (fermented cabbage with spicy sauce) is extremely popular and is literally at every meal.

One meal I've really enjoyed is bibimbap, which is a bowl of warm rice topped with sauteed seasoned vegetables and chili pepper paste and a fried egg on top. All of this is mixed up right before you eat it. This is one dish that Koreans always eat with a spoon. Yay for me because chop sticks are not my strong suit! Here's what bibimbap looks like:

Korean barbecue, gogigui, is also really popular. Lots of restaurants serve this. You order what type of meat you want and then you grill it on your table with the built-in grill. I ate this meal but attempted to avoid the meat. Being a vegetarian is pretty challenging in Korea.

YUM!

jimbo, i think i will comment on the food section rather than your tour of the dmz if you know what i mean. looks like some of the food is quite tangy and looks good. maybe you can try to make some of the dishes you have experienced, when you get home (soon i hope)
keep us posted . love dad
